Two Celebrity Gardeners to appear at the Shrewsbury Flower Show!
Organisers of the Shrewsbury Flower Show have announced that at this year’s event, to be held on the 11th and 12th August 2017, two horticulturalists, Joe Swift and Penny Meadmore, will be on hand to answer any gardening queries visitors to the show may have.
Joe Swift has been gardening since he left school and is a fully trained garden designer. He has been one of the main presenters on BBC2’s flagship gardening show ‘Gardeners World’ since 1998 and also regularly appears in the BBC’s coverage of RHS Chelsea, Hampton Court, Gardeners World Live and Tatton Park Flower shows. Over the years Joe has fronted many gardening related TV shows and has even appeared as a competitor on Celebrity Masterchef. Joe has designed numerous gardens for television, including one for Comic Relief, lots for Gardeners World & all of the Alan Titchmarsh’s ‘How to be a Gardener 2’.
Joe’s a regular columnist in The Times Weekend section, Gardeners World Magazine and various other magazines. He has written three books – ‘The Plant Room’, ‘Joe’s Urban Garden Handbook’, and ‘Joe’s Allotment’.
Joe is the President of the National Garden Scheme, and Patron to many gardening charities including The Horniman Museum and The Harington Scheme.
Penny Meadmore is a Royal Horticultural Society award winning garden designer with a degree (BSc Hons) in Botany. Other qualifications include Garden Design from the Open College of the Arts (OU) and in ‘Plants and Plantsmanship’ from the English Gardening School at the Chelsea Physic Garden. As a qualified Agronomist and member of the BASIS Professional Register, she works with farmers and growers on a diverse range of crops, advising on pests, diseases and crop production.
With a design practice based in Lincolnshire Penny works across the country on gardens ranging from roof terraces in London to the private grounds of a new rural hospice.
As a BBC Radio Lincolnshire ‘Garden Expert’, Penny broadcasts from the Chelsea Flower Show and is a regular on their weekly Gardeners’ Question Time. On television, she has previously appeared on the BBC’s ‘Gardeners’ World’ and presented coverage from the RHS flower shows at Hampton Court and Tatton Park as well as Gardeners’ World Live. She was the garden designer on both UKTV’s ‘Our House’ and the series ‘Garden Rivals’.
