The Shropshire Horticultural Society is the major sponsor who, through the Percy Thrower Trust, provide the Travel Bursary prize of £2,000 and also the considerable sponsorship of the Grand Final. 2014 marked the 25th Anniversary of the signing of the agreement between the Institute of Horticulture and the Percy Thrower Trust.

Shropshire Horticultural Society (Wisley Trainee) Charitable Trust

The charitable objective of the Trust is the advancement of education and learning in the science, art and practice of horticulture through the provision of bursaries, scholarships, grants or allowances for one or more students attending the Wisley Training Course in the basics of horticulture at RHS Garden Wisley or any other course or project administered by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS). Primary consideration is given to students originating from Shropshire or any contiguous County. At their discretion, the trustees may determine other charitable objectives connected with or relating to the promotion of science, art and practice of horticulture. Over the past five years, awards have been agreed for students who have commenced studying for the Wisley Diploma in Practical Horticulture. These courses commence in September and are for two years.

Also, from time to time the Society has given grants to students and colleges under the headings of Pershore and Walcot Bursaries.
